About Mark Harvey.![]() Dr. Mark Harvey is a Professor of Business and Politics and Director of the MBA program at the University of Saint Mary. Dr. Harvey has been with the University of Saint Mary faculty since 2012, and has served as the director of the MBA program since 2017. He teaches global management, economics, organizational management, and leadership. Dr. Harvey earned a Ph.D from the University of Kansas, master’s degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the University of Wales-Swansea in the UK, and a bachelor’s degree from Washburn University. He also studied International Business and Global Politics in a non-degree seeking program at Regent’s College in London. He has over 25 years of experience in higher education, teaching at the University of Birmingham, London School of Economics, Duke University, the University of Kansas, Baker University, and others.
Before going into academia, he was a small business owner and professional consultant. His consulting work included technical marketing, corporate social responsibility and the environment, competitive benchmarking, graduate education in the U.K., political marketing in Ireland, and conflict forecasting. He advised Charles, Charles and Associates, Marketing Resources of America, Hoechst Celanese, Printing Industries of America, Honeywell, MyJoeCard.com, Political Studies Association (PSA), C-SAP (Centre for Learning and Teaching), the Center for International Political Analysis, the US Department of Defense, and others. His book, Celebrity Influence, discusses the way the global entertainment industry influences our political perceptions. His chapter, ““I'm a Ratings Machine!" Media Coverage and the Celebrity of Donald Trump” appears in an edited volume, The Hollywood Connection. Additional research interests include the pedagogy of games and simulations in the classroom. He takes part in National Security Roundtables and simulations at the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth and worked with the Center for International Political Analysis at the University of Kansas to support the Kansas Event Data System data set, conflict forecasting in the developing world. He also published Simulations in the Classroom: Games without Frontiers with co-authors James "Pigeon" Fielder and Ryan Gibb. Other publications include topics such as innovation in the music industry, the politics of sport, human rights, economic development, democratization, and virtual learning teams.
